Electronics today has evolved significantly, including its application in transparent and flexible devices. Flexible electronics offers new product concepts, including low production cost, low energy consumption, and sustainable and environmentally friendly materials. This concept leads to the development of novel materials that realize today's requirements. Incorporating optically transparent and flexible thin-film-based devices into the electronic circuitry helps in maintaining high conductivity along with achieving the similar electronic behavior of the conventional electronic gadgets. Thin-film diodes (TFDs) and thin-film transistors (TFTs) are the core materials to be incorporated as building blocks for flexible devices. Among them, oxide-based thin films have been marked to be significant because of their efficient electrical performance, low temperature processing, and device flexibility. The present article reviews the concepts and application of zinc oxide (ZnO) as the semiconducting material for flexible thin-film devices. We also review flexible and transparent TFDs and TFTs that are based prominently on ZnO as the semiconducting material. Furthermore, the present issues have also been addressed. Polyvinylidene difluoride trifluoroethylene (PVDF-TrFE) has received widespread application in flexible electronics and biomedical devices but is limited in its sensing modalities to piezoelectricity and pyroelectricity. The addition of optically or magnetically active nanoparticles could provide additional sensing modalities in the same element, which could drive miniaturization of such sensors. Europium barium titanate (EBTO) is one such optically active nanoparticle that could add functionality to such a nanocomposite. In this work, multifunctional nanocomposites of PVDF-TrFE and EBTO are successfully synthesized and characterized for their material and electronic properties. Thermoelectrics is the simplest technology applicable for direct energy conversion between heat and electricity. After over 60 years of fruitful research efforts, recent boom in flexible electronics has promoted the rapid development of flexible thermoelectrics with rising performances, discovery of new materials and concepts, unconventional device configuration, and emerging applications not possible for traditional thermoelectric (TE) semiconductors. In this Perspective, we first overview representative flexible TE materials, then discuss recent breakthroughs for flexible TE devices assembled from various types of TE materials employing different technical routes. They exhibit promising power generation and sensing performances, and aim for applications in wearable electronics, such as the power supply harvesting heat from body for low-power electronics, temperature sensors for tactile e-skin, and newly emerged application as a thermo-haptic device in an extended reality system. We report for the first time MoS2/CNT hybrid nanostructures for memristor applications on flexible and bio-degradable cellulose paper. In our approach, we varied two different weight percentages (10% and 20%) of CNT's in MoS2 to improve the MoS2 conductivity and investigate the memristor device characteristics. The device with 10% CNT shows a low V SET voltage of 2.5 V, which is comparatively small for planar devices geometries. The device exhibits a long data retention time and cyclic current–voltage stability of ∼104 s and 102 cycles, making it a potential candidate in flexible painted electronics. Along with good electrical performance, it also demonstrates a high mechanical stability for 1000 bending cycles. The conduction mechanism in the MoS2-CNT hybrid structure is corroborated by percolation and defect-induced filament formation. Additionally, the device displays synaptic plasticity performance, simulating potentiation and depression processes. Furthermore, such flexible and biodegradable cellulose-based paper electronics may pave the way to address the environmental pollution caused by electronic waste in the near future. In recent years, the demand for electronic materials has significantly increased, driven by industrial needs and the pursuit of cost‐efficient alternatives. This comprehensive study investigates the effects of Mn substitution on LaFeO3 through the implementation of the GGA approach in density functional theory. The research findings demonstrate remarkable consistency with the experimental outcomes reported in the existing literature pertaining to the studied compounds. However, this study unveils novel insights into the mechanical and optical characteristics of the doped structures, which have not been previously reported. The structural stability is rigorously examined through multiple stability criteria, encompassing structural optimization, tests of elastic stability, and enthalpy of formation calculations. Furthermore, the electronic and optical properties of the compounds exhibit exceptional improvements in conductivity and reflectivity as a result of the doping process. The band structure analysis reveals the presence of a Moss‐Burstein shift. Investigation of the magnetic properties indicates an increase in the magnetic moment value due to the Fe‐Mn degeneracy resulting from increased Mn content. Mechanical analysis of the elastic moduli B, G, and Y demonstrates an enhanced strength and metal‐like conductivity, attributed to the induced anharmonicity. Direct printing of conjugated polymer thin‐film transistors enables the fabrication of deformable devices with low cost, high throughput, and large area. However, a relatively poor device performance of printed devices remains a major obstacle to their application in high‐end display backplanes and integrated circuits. In this study, high‐performance and highly stackable printed organic transistors is developed, arrays, and circuits using a near‐amorphous polymer, indacenodithiophene‐co‐benzothiadiazole (IDT‐BT). The printed devices exhibited high saturation mobility (>1 cm2 V−1 s−1), high on/off ratio (>107), and low subthreshold slope (245 mV dec−1). In addition, 16 × 16 printed IDT‐BT arrays achieved 100% fabrication yield, with excellent device‐to‐device uniformity and low variations of mobility (9.55%) and threshold voltage (4.51%), and good operational and environmental stability (>365 days). Furthermore, five stacked 3D transistors are demonstrated with an excellent 3D uniformity without compromising device performance due to a low required thermal budget for processing amorphous IDT‐BT. Finally, a new concept of 3D universal logic gate with high voltage gain (33.91 V/V) and record density (100 printed transistors per cm2) is proposed and fabricated, which is relevant for the commercialization of low‐cost printed display backplanes and high‐density integrated circuits based on highly processable polymeric semiconductors. It remains a huge challenge to efficiently recycle the printed circuit boards (PCBs) because of the diversity and complexity of the PCBs in terms of material composition. The recycling of PCBs highly depends on the design of the polymers that make up the polymer substrates and conductive pastes. Herein, closed‐loop recyclable plastics for use as the polymer substrates and for the preparation of the conductive pastes are fabricated by dynamically cross‐linking phenylboronic acid‐functionalized poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA‐B) and poly(urea‐urethane) (PUU‐B) with boroxines. The closed‐loop recyclable plastic, which is denoted as PMMA‐PUU exhibits a breaking strength of 71.0 MPa and Young's modulus of 1.8 GPa. Because of the dynamic nature of boroxines, the PMMA‐PUU0.6 plastic can be depolymerized in the N, N‐dimethylacetamide/ethanol mixture solvent. The depolymerized PMMA and PUU can be efficiently recovered in high yields and purity through their solubility differences in selective solvents. Conductive pastes suitable for printing of electrical circuits are fabricated through complexation of Ag particles with PMMA‐PUU. PCBs composed of PMMA‐PUU substrates and PMMA‐PUU‐based conductive pastes are flexible, healable, and recyclable. The closed‐loop recycling of the PCBs enables the collection of highly purified Ag particles, PMMA‐B, and PUU‐B monomers even when the PCBs are mixed with polymer wastes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A variety of organic electrochemical transistors have been recently developed; however, their self-healing performance has been largely ignored. In this study, we propose the use of a lithium-ion composite electrolyte membrane as a dielectric layer and the use of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) as a channel layer to fabricate flexible self-supporting organic synaptic transistors. A variety of synaptic behaviors were emulated within the proposed organic synaptic transistors. By leveraging the self-healing features of polymer electrolytes, along with cross-linking reactions and low-resistance lithium-ion transmission, the device maintained its electrical performance. Testing involving different curvatures also revealed the device's potential for use in flexible electronics. Significantly, due to the device's self-healing ability, consistent dataset recognition rates were sustained. Flexible and stretchable microdevices incorporate highly deformable structures, facilitating precise functionality at the micro- and millimetre scale. Flexible microdevices have showcased extensive utility in the fields of biomedicine, microfluidics, and soft robotics. Actuation plays a critical role in transforming energy between different forms, ensuring the effective operation of devices. However, when it comes to actuating flexible microdevices at the small millimetre or even microscale, translating actuation mechanisms from conventional rigid large-scale devices is not straightforward. The recent development of actuation mechanisms leverages the benefits of device flexibility, particularly in transforming conventional actuation concepts into more efficient approaches for flexible devices. Despite many reviews on soft robotics, flexible electronics, and flexible microfluidics, a specific and systematic review of the actuation mechanisms for flexible and stretchable microdevices is still lacking. Therefore, the present review aims to address this gap by providing a comprehensive overview of state-of-the-art actuation mechanisms for flexible and stretchable microdevices. We elaborate on the different actuation mechanisms based on fluid pressure, electric, magnetic, mechanical, and chemical sources, thoroughly examining and comparing the structure designs, characteristics, performance, advantages, and drawbacks of these diverse actuation mechanisms. Furthermore, the review explores the pivotal role of materials and fabrication techniques in the development of flexible and stretchable microdevices. Stretchable conductors (SCs) have garnered significant attention in both academia and industry, owing to their promising applications in flexible electronics. However, achieving a highly resilient and rapidly rebounding SC that enables prompt electrical response to applied strain, while also being fully recyclable and self‐healable, remains a challenge. Here, the design and preparation of a high‐performance SC based on a small bio‐molecule (α‐Lipoic acid) are reported, using a straightforward, cost‐effective, and scalable method. The engineered SC exhibits a ≈100% rebound ratio and fast rebound speed (≈0.4 s) under repeated high strains, along with outstanding electrical sensitivity to both deformation and temperature variation. This ensures that the SC possesses high precision and real‐time sensing attributes. Moreover, the SC features high optical transparency (>97%), robust reversible adhesion to diverse surfaces (up to 5.0 MPa), efficient room‐temperature self‐healing properties, and full recyclability. The superior properties of the SC are fundamentally attributed to the installed hierarchical dynamic bonding at the molecular level, which enables continuous energy dissipation and is analyzed through DFT calculations. Camouflage skin holds immense potential for a variety of advanced applications, such as artificial intelligence, soft robotics, and flexible/wearable electronics. Currently, most existing materials for constructing camouflage skin are mainly based on inorganic materials with an inverse opal scaffold, which significantly limits their further development because of the poor mechanical properties and environmental instability. Inspired by rana slvaticas, a new type of camouflage skin based on one‐dimentional (1D) photonic crystal (PC) gel is designed and synthesized, which combines the advantages of 1D PC structures with 3D flexible gels in a single skin device. Taking advantage of the unique structures, the resulting camouflage skins demonstrated attractive properties, including excellent mechanical performance, self‐adaptive camouflage capabilities, and long‐term stability in ambient conditions. Specifically, the camouflage skin can quickly recognize and match the background by modulating the optical signals of external stimuli. The synergistic effect of the glycerol, the dodecyl glycerol itaconate (DGI), and the nano‐space structures altogether contribute to the outstanding long‐term environmental stability of the camouflage skin. Overall, by combining the bio‐inspired concept and molecular engineering strategy, camouflage skin based on PC gels is synthesized, which greatly enriched the application and development in the smart skins field. Requirements for the material with high tensile strength and elongation at break are proposed with the development of soft and stretchable electronics. The nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) crosslinked by coordination bonds has excellent tensile properties and is expected to be used in the flexible electronics field, but the effect of strain rate on tensile properties of crosslinked NBR needs to be further analyzed. In this work, the NBR with dual crosslinked networks was prepared by methods of double ligands crosslinking, covalence-coordination crosslinking, and bimetallic coordination crosslinking. Furthermore, the strain rate sensitivity of tensile properties of NBR with dual crosslinked networks was studied by considering the strain rate as a variable. The results indicated that the strength of the coordination bonds formed by the second ligand had significant effects on the tensile properties of NBR: The coordination bonds with low strength could protect the integrity of the crosslinked network, but the tensile properties of NBR with two different kinds of strong coordination bonds would be more dependent on the strain rate. In covalence-coordination crosslinked or bimetallic crosslinked NBR, the synergy between the two crosslinked networks could not only increase the strength and elongation at break of NBR but also reduce the influence of strain rate on the tensile properties of NBR. Stretchable alternating current electroluminescent (ACEL) devices have a bright future in wearable electronics and soft robotics. Still, their market application is hindered by high operating voltages. The voltage can be reduced by increasing the relative permittivity of the dielectric elastomer in the emissive layer. Here, a fluorine‐free high‐permittivity silicone elastomer functionalized with cyanopropyl side groups, specially designed for application in stretchable ACEL devices, is introduced. The polar silicone elastomer exhibits excellent mechanical properties and a dielectric permittivity four times higher than commercial PDMS. Light‐emitting devices based on the polar elastomer reach 7.5 times higher maximum luminance at the same electric field than PDMS‐based devices and turn on at a 50% lower electric field. Besides, the polar elastomer‐based devices perform better than all materials tested in literature in achieving high luminance at low electric fields. Stretchable ACEL devices are built from the polar elastomer which shows bright and uniform light emission and can be operated up to 50% strain. The high‐permittivity silicones are promising materials for stretchable ACEL devices and can help their breakthrough to market application by overcoming the drawback of high operating voltages. Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) are a promising class of two‐dimensional (2D) materials for flexible electronic applications due to their low integration temperature, good electronic properties, and excellent mechanical flexibility. Moreover, TMDCs offer the possibility of co‐integrating both n‐ and p‐type transistors on the same substrate, enabling the realization of complementary metal‐oxide‐semiconductor (CMOS) circuits. In this study, n‐type MoS2 field‐effect transistors (FETs), and p‐type WSe2‐FETs integrated on a flexible foil substrate fabricated by standard thin‐film technology are presented. These devices exhibit high stability in their electronic operation under strain and repeated bending cycles. A CMOS inverter based on these transistors is also successfully demonstrated, which shows excellent switching behaviour with high gain (up to 100), high noise margin (0.87 · VDD), and low average static power consumption (40 pW). With the trend of integration and miniaturization of stretchable electronics, thermal management has been a crucial issue. Developing novel materials with high thermal conductivity (TC) and flexibility is urgent. Herein, we report a stretchable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)/boron nitride nanosheet (BNNS)@spherical aluminum oxide (Al2O3) composite with high TC and electrical insulation prepared by a two‐step strategy of sucrose‐template and hot‐pressing. An effective foam‐pressing route benefits the composites to form a three‐dimensional thermally conductive networks, improving the in‐plane TC value of the resultant composite to 4.03 W/(mK) at the filler mass fraction of 35.7 wt% and enhancing to 4.66 W/(mK) under 40% stretching ratio. Meanwhile, the composites can be restored to their former state and retain thermally conductive stability with repeated bending and twisting tests. Moreover, the composites were applied in LED with stretching, exhibiting good heat dissipation performance. These results demonstrate this PDMS composite can be potentially utilized as a high‐performance material to solve thermal management problems in flexible electronics. Energy‐harvesting technologies offer a sustainable, maintenance‐free alternative to conventional energy‐storage solutions in distributed low‐power applications. Flexible thermoelectric generators (TEGs) can generate electric power from a temperature gradient, even on complex surfaces. Organic materials are ideal candidates for flexible TEGs due to their good solution‐processability, natural abundance, low weight, and flexibility. Electronic and thermoelectric properties of organic materials have steadily progressed, while device architectures leveraging their advantages are largely missing. Here, a design and fabrication method are proposed for producing fully screen‐printed, flexible monolithic organic TEGs scalable up to m2, compatible with any screen‐printable ink. This approach is validated, along with its scalability, by printing TEGs composed of two different active inks, in three configurations, with up to 800 thermoelements, with performances well matching simulations based on materials parameters. It is demonstrated that by using an additive‐free graphene ink, a remarkable power density of 15 nW cm−2 at ΔT = 29.5 K can be achieved, with an estimated weight‐normalized power output of 1 µW g−1, highlighting a strong potential in portability. Owing to such power density, only limited areas are required to generate microwatts, sufficient for operating low‐power electronic devices such as sensors, and wearables. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Highlights: A stretchable, transparent, and ultra-broadband (0.1–10 THz) terahertz shielding MXene (Ti3C2Tx) film has been fabricated by a structure engineering strategy. Theoretical calculations indicate that the wrinkled structure enhances the film's conductivity and surface plasmon resonances, resulting in an improved THz wave absorption. The wrinkled MXene films exhibit superb conformability to surfaces with random curvatures, and can be used as a shielding film for THz imaging. With the increasing demand for terahertz (THz) technology in security inspection, medical imaging, and flexible electronics, there is a significant need for stretchable and transparent THz electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials. Existing EMI shielding materials, like opaque metals and carbon-based films, face challenges in achieving both high transparency and high shielding efficiency (SE). Here, a wrinkled structure strategy was proposed to construct ultra-thin, stretchable, and transparent terahertz shielding MXene films, which possesses both isotropous wrinkles (height about 50 nm) and periodic wrinkles (height about 500 nm). Compared to flat film, the wrinkled MXene film (8 nm) demonstrates a remarkable 36.5% increase in SE within the THz band. The wrinkled MXene film exhibits an EMI SE of 21.1 dB at the thickness of 100 nm, and an average EMI SE/t of 700 dB μm−1 over the 0.1–10 THz. Theoretical calculations suggest that the wrinkled structure enhances the film's conductivity and surface plasmon resonances, resulting in an improved THz wave absorption. Additionally, the wrinkled structure enhances the MXene films' stretchability and stability. After bending and stretching (at 30% strain) cycles, the average THz transmittance of the wrinkled film is only 0.5% and 2.4%, respectively. Understanding viscoelastic behavior of dielectric elastomers for artificial muscle application is important to regulate actuation performance, response time, energy density, sensitivity, duty cycle, etc. The performance of elastomers is widely recognized as being influenced by various fillers, including functional particles and poly-reagents. However, the impact of fillers on the viscoelastic properties of VHB 4910 remains to be fully understood. In this work, a new range of particulate-polymer filled VHB elastomers are studied for the effects of barium titanate and Ketjenblack particles dispersed trimethylolpropane trimethylacrylate on viscoelastic properties. This followed characterization of stress-relaxation and creep behavior to realize the time-dependent mechanical performance. Also, the stress-softening and energy dissipation behavior are examined to find the number of cycles required to reach the equilibrium energy state. Viscoelastic properties of elastomer including elastic modulus, toughness, are found to significantly reduced as a result of modified poroelastic effects due to incorporated fillers. The mechanical properties of composites are evidenced to depend on the size of the particulates and the amount of polymer reagent within elastomer. Theoretical analysis comparing deformation, relaxation, and creep mechanisms in biomedical materials validates the potential of modified elastomers for use in soft actuation devices, particularly in the field of artificial muscles. The research and development of high-strength and high-toughness metal coordination hydrogels (MC-HG) for flexible electronic sensing has become an international frontier in the field of advanced functional polymer materials, which has wide application significance and important scientific value. However, the traditional soaking method is difficult to control the permeation and combination of metal ions, resulting in weak mechanical properties. In this paper, a screening strategy based on sodium acetate (SA) was proposed to promote the metal complex permeation first and then combination with functional ligands, thus obtaining a homogeneous metal coordination hydrogel (Fe-HGSA), whose breaking strength and toughness (1. 546 MPa/2. 139 MJ/m³) were much higher than those of traditional soaking method (0. 832 MPa/0. 919 MJ/m³) and common aqueous solution rearrangement method (1. 126 MPa/1. 352 MJ/m³). Flexible electronics have gained a lot of attention in recent years due to their compatibility with soft robotics, artificial arms, and many other applications. Meanwhile, the detection of acoustic frequencies is a very useful tool for applications ranging from voice recognition to machine condition monitoring. In this work, the dynamic response of Pt nanoparticles (Pt NPs)-based strain sensors on flexible substrates is investigated. the nanoparticles were grown in a vacuum by magnetron-sputtering inert-gas condensation. Nanoparticle sensors made on cracked alumina deposited by atomic layer deposition on the flexible substrate and reference nanoparticle sensors, without the alumina layer, were first characterized by their response to strain. The sensors were then characterized by their dynamic response to acoustic frequency vibrations between 20 Hz and 6250 Hz. The results show that alumina sensors outperformed the reference sensors in terms of voltage amplitude. Sensors on the alumina layer could accurately detect frequencies up to 6250 Hz, compared with the reference sensors, which were sensitive to frequencies up to 4250 Hz, while they could distinguish between two neighboring frequencies with a difference of no more than 2 Hz. As the Internet of Things (IoT) becomes more widespread, wearable smart systems will begin to be used in a variety of applications in people's daily lives, not only requiring the devices to have excellent flexibility and biocompatibility, but also taking into account redundant data and communication delays due to the use of a large number of sensors. Fortunately, the emerging paradigms of near-sensor and in-sensor computing, together with the proposal of flexible neuromorphic devices, provides a viable solution for the application of intelligent low-power wearable devices. Therefore, wearable smart systems based on new computing paradigms are of great research value. This review discusses the research status of a flexible five-sense sensing system based on near-sensor and in-sensor architectures, considering material design, structural design and circuit design. In this study, we propose a low-cost piezoelectric flexible pressure sensor fabricated on Kapton® (Kapton™ Dupont) substrate by using aluminum nitride (AlN) thin film, designed for the monitoring of the respiration rate for a fast detection of respiratory anomalies. The device was characterized in the range of 15–30 breaths per minute (bpm), to simulate moderate difficult breathing, borderline normal breathing, and normal spontaneous breathing. These three breathing typologies were artificially reproduced by setting the expiratory to inspiratory ratios (E:I) at 1:1, 2:1, 3:1. The prototype was able to accurately recognize the breath states with a low response time (~35 ms), excellent linearity (R2 = 0.997) and low hysteresis. The piezoelectric device was also characterized by placing it in an activated carbon filter mask to evaluate the pressure generated by exhaled air through breathing acts. The results indicate suitability also for the monitoring of very weak breath, exhibiting good linearity, accuracy, and reproducibility, in very low breath pressures, ranging from 0.09 to 0.16 kPa. These preliminary results are very promising for the future development of smart wearable devices able to monitor different patients breathing patterns, also related to breathing diseases, providing a suitable real-time diagnosis in a non-invasive and fast way. Organohydrogels composed of immiscible hydrophilic and hydrophobic components have outstanding advantages in environmental adaptability, thus exhibiting potential applications in the fields of soft actuators, artificial sensors, energy storage devices, and so on. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in organohydrogels, from construction to performance and application. After a brief introduction, typical cases of organohydrogels and their construction methods are analyzed and summarized, including organohydrogels with heterogeneous networks, organohydrogels with binary solvent, emulsion‐based organohydrogels, and macroscopic hybrid gels. Then, their promising applications of soft actuators, flexible electronics, and anti‐counterfeiting platforms are outlined. Finally, the current challenges and future prospects of this emerging area are discussed. The need for biomass materials that are both cost-effective and highly effective has increased rapidly in a number of areas, including flexible electronics. The aim of this research is to investigate the properties of a screen-printed thick film of Prosopis Africana charcoal (PAC) on an alumina substrate. The biochar was obtained from the Prosopis Africana strain by subjecting it to controlled pyrolysis at 500 °C for 3 h. The rheological properties of the PAC pastes were formulated at a powder-to-organic binder ratio of 40:60 wt%. An average 11.8-µm-thick layer was produced using the screen-printing process. X-ray diffraction analysis showed the presence of characteristic peaks at approximately 25.0° and 44.7°. These peaks correspond to the (002) and (004) reflections of the graphite structure. Thermogravimetric analysis revealed that the PAC film exhibited thermal stability in an airflow environment up to 650 °C. The surface morphology of the PAC thick film exhibits a reticulated appearance with patchy features, while elemental composition analysis (EDX) confirmed the high carbon content of the PAC thick film. The real and imaginary dielectric constants of the PAC thick film at 10 GHz were found to be 9.8 and 1.8, respectively. It can be concluded that the PAC biochar has promising electronic properties, making it a suitable candidate as an environmentally friendly material for a range of electronic applications. We demonstrated a flexible artificial synapse device with a structure of Al/Cs3Bi2I9/ITO. It is found that the device displays a resistive switching behavior, effectively simulating the potentiation and depression processes observed in synapses under varying bending angles. Synaptic functions, such as excitatory postsynaptic current and paired-pulse facilitation, were performed. Furthermore, we conducted a systematic investigation into the impact of pulse amplitude, pulse width, and pulse number on the synaptic weight. Additionally, long-term plasticity was simulated by precisely controlling the time intervals between pre-synaptic and post-synaptic pulses. Remarkably, our prepared flexible artificial synapse exhibited exceptional flexibility and robustness, with no significant alteration in conductance even after undergoing 2000 bending cycles. Flexible wearable electronics enable an in situ and real‐time measurement of human physiology and micro‐environment. Although large‐scale production of flexible wearable electronics is demonstrated using direct printing techniques, the "wet" nature of these techniques requires multiple procedures and chemicals to prepare printable inks, increasing the complexity and cost. Here, a dry‐wet hybrid direct printing is developed for the mass production of flexible wearable photodetectors, in which a "dry" direct laser writing and a "wet" screen printing are employed to fabricate laser‐induced graphene as electrode layer and zinc oxide as photosensitive layer, respectively. The liquid‐free fabrication of LIG significantly reduces the complexity and cost of the production. An automatic conveyor belt is designed to realize continuous‐flow manufacturing. The photodetectors demonstrate good ultraviolet (UV) photodetection performances, such as a photo‐to‐dark current ratio (Iphoto/Idark) of 5.67 × 105, approaching the record of similar devices. The manufacturing system presents a high reproducibility, considering that Iphoto/Idark only fluctuates within 7.10%. The flexible photodetectors are worn as wristbands after being integrated with a data acquisition and transmission circuit. UV intensity is real‐time monitored on a self‐developed mobile application. Stable polypyrrole (PPy)-based hydrogels as soft conducting materials are ideal in wearable electronics and elastic robotics. The development of high-performance PPy-based hydrogels is greatly desired due to the poor mechanical properties of PPy hydrogel. Here, multifunctional stable conducting hydrogels are fabricated by immersing the preprepared brittle PPy hydrogel into polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) solution followed by freeze–thaw cycles. The extensive hydrogen bonding between PPy and PVA and the entangled PVA chains further support the backbone structure of the interconnected PPy network, improving the mechanical performance of the hydrogel. PPy/PVA hydrogel exhibits attractive mechanical property with a compression strength of 70 kPa, satisfactory electrical conductivity (10 S m−1), good processability, and self-healing features. PPy/PVA/100 still retained a recovery rate of more than 90% even after 1000 cycles of 30% compression strain. Furthermore, the as-prepared hydrogel is applied to show high-quality electrochemical behavior of 120 F/g subjected to repeated compression and an electrically controlled release of fluorescein sodium with 0.70 μg/mg at − 1 V for 12 h. This facile method supplies a promising strategy to fabricate soft materials with integrated electrical and mechanical properties for the potential applications in wearable devices and flexible energy electronics. The proliferation of flexible electronics has entirely transformed the field of antenna design and paved the door for cutting-edge uses in communication, sensing, and other areas. The present research lends a succinct overview of the intriguing advancements in flexible antenna technology, with specific emphasis on the implementation of polymer substrates. As we refer to poly-flex antennas in this article, they stand for the incorporation of polymer substrates in antenna design. Polymer substrates are the optimum candidate for flexible antenna applications as they have specific advantages, including being lightweight, conformable, and inexpensive. The main features of poly-flex antennas, such as their design concepts, fabrication processes, and performance characteristics, are being explored in this proposed article. We delve into the wide variety of polymer substrates that are appropriate for antennas, taking into account their dielectric characteristics, flexibility, and environmental resistance. Their dielectric characterization, bending effects, challenges, and future prospects of this burgeoning field are also addressed. We conclude by emphasizing the immense potential of poly-flex-antennas to shape the future of wireless communication and sensing systems, and how the adoption of polymer substrates is driving innovation in antenna engineering. Monitoring non-contact high-frequency vibrations requires improving the sensitivity and linear response of iontronic pressure sensors (IPSs). In this study, we incorporate composite electrodes comprising silver nanowires (Ag NWs) and MXene into IPSs to enhance electronic conduction and pseudocapacitance. Moreover, we utilize a novel surface-pillar microstructure, along with an internally randomized multi-bubble structure within the dielectric layer, to significantly expand the linear response range of the sensor. The resulting IPS device demonstrates exceptional linear sensitivity, measuring approximately 153.83 kPa−1, across a broad pressure range of up to 260 kPa. Additionally, it exhibits long-term stability, rapid response and recovery characteristics, and remains functional underwater. Notably, these devices exhibit remarkable capabilities in monitoring ultrasonic vibrations and accurately identifying sound wave vibrations. The integration of composite electrodes, microstructure designs, and their compatibility with underwater applications positions these IPSs as highly promising tools for precise measurements and advancements in flexible electronics technology. Due to the high application value in intelligent robots, tactile sensors with large sensing area and multi‐dimensional sensing ability have attracted the attention of researchers in recent years. Inspired by bionics of hairs on human skin, a flexible tactile sensor based on magnetic cilia array is developed, showing extremely high sensitivity and stability. The upper layers of the sensor are multiple magnetic cilia containing magnetic particles, while the lower layer is a serpentine flexible circuit board with a magnetic sensor array. When magnetic cilia are bent under force, the magnetic sensor array can detect changes in the magnetic field, thereby the magnitude and direction of external force can be obtained. The proposed sensor has a resolution of 0.2 mN with a working range of 0–19.5 mN and can distinguish the direction of external force. The large sensing area and short response time make this sensor suitable for sliding tactile detection, and experiments show that the sensor can be also applied in object recognition with a success accuracy of 97%. In addition to the shape of objects, the sensor can identify whether there is magnetism inside objects, making it of significant value in intelligent robots and modern medicine. Excellent electrical and fluidic properties render liquid metal (LM) a promising material for flexible electronics, soft robotics, and stretchable circuits. Although producing LM micro/nano droplets by nanometerization addresses the tricky issue of the processing result from high surface tension, it still remains challenging to obtain stable LM droplets because of their dynamic surfaces. In this study, LM powders wrapped with robust shells are fabricated by bimetallic ions chelation strategy. During sonicating LM (e.g., EGaIn) in an alginate solution, a microgel shell is first formed by the coordination of Ga3+ and carboxyl groups. Subsequently, LM powders are achieved by introducing Ca2+ as secondary metal ions to chelate with redundant carboxyl groups. Besides high chemical stability in water and air, these nonstick LM powders also exhibit superior photothermal effects for energy harvesting, being capable of recovering electrical conductivity by mechanical sintering for flexible electronics. These conductive circuits based on LM powders not only work as electro‐thermal heaters, and electromagnetic interference shielding material but also can be designed as smart actuators. Thus, this bimetallic ions chelation strategy may start a pathway to produce stable, transportable LM powders with multifunctional properties, applicable in stretchable electronics, smart actuators, and electric skins. At low temperatures about 230 °C, bilayer InGaZnO/In2O3 thin film transistors (TFTs) were prepared by a solution process with lightwave annealing. The InGaZnO/In2O3 bilayer TFTs with SiO2 as dielectric layer show high electrical performances, such as a mobility of 7.63 cm2V−1s−1, a threshold voltage (V th) of 3.8 V, and an on/off ratio higher than 107, which are superior to single-layer InGaZnO TFTs or In2O3 TFTs. Moreover, bilayer InGaZnO/In2O3 TFTs demonstrated a great bias stability enhancement due to the introduction of top InGaZnO film act as a passivation layer, which could prevent the interaction of ambient air with the bottom In2O3 layer. By using high dielectric constant AlO x film, the InGaZnO/In2O3 TFTs exhibit an improved mobility of 47.7 cm2V−1s−1. With the vigorous development of the Internet of Things, 5G technology, and artificial intelligence, flexible wearable sensors have received great attention. As a simple and low-cost power supply in wearable sensors, the triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) has a wide range of applications in the field of flexible electronics. However, most polymers are thermally poor conductors (less than 0.1 W/(m·K)), resulting in insufficient heat dissipation performance and limiting the development of TENG. In this study, a high-performance non-woven fabric TENG with strong thermal conductivity (0.26 W/m·K) was achieved by introducing ZrB2 into the polyurethane (PU) matrix. The excellent output performance with an open circuit voltage (Voc) of 347.6 V, a short circuit current (Isc) of 3.61 μA, and an accumulated charge of 142.4 nC endows it with good sensitivity. The electrospun PU/ZrB2 composites exhibit excellent sensing performance to detect body movements in situ, such as pressing, clapping, running, and walking. The High Target Utilisation Sputtering technique (HiTUS) is of interest for industrial processes, including in roll‐to‐roll manufacturing. This study marks the first application of HiTUS to thermoelectric materials, exemplified by bismuth telluride. The HiTUS technique separates the sputtering power into the plasma power and the target power, with additional kinetic energy in the sputtering particles from the applied electrical field, thus enabling a much wider sputter parameter space to modify the film performance. This study investigates how plasma power, target power, and substrate bias in HiTUS intricately influence crystal orientation/size, elemental composition, surface morphology, and other film properties. These factors subsequently affect carrier density/mobility, and consequently the thermoelectric performance of the bismuth telluride film. These deposited films reach a power factor of 6.5 × 10−4 W m−1 K−2 with a figure of merit ≈0.14 at room temperature, the highest value for room‐temperature sputtered un‐doped bismuth telluride. Subsequent post‐deposition annealing significantly enhances the crystallinity of the film (highly polycrystalline), further improving the power factor to 23.5 × 10−4 W m−1 K‐2, with a figure of merit ≈0.45 at room temperature. In recent years, additive manufacturing tools, such as 3D printing, has gained enormous attention in biomedical engineering for developing ionotropic devices, flexible electronics, skin‐electronic interfaces, and wearable sensors with extremely high precision and sensing accuracy. Such printed bioelectronics are innovative and can be used as multi‐stimuli response platforms for human health monitoring and disease diagnosis. This review systematically discusses the past, present, and future of the various printable and stretchable soft bioelectronics for precision medicine. The potential of various naturally and chemically derived conductive biopolymer inks and their nanocomposites with tunable physico‐chemical properties is also highlighted, which is crucial for bioelectronics fabrication. Then, the design strategies of various printable sensors for human body sensing are summarized. In conclusion, the perspectives on the future advanced bioelectronics are described, which will be helpful, particularly in the field of nano/biomedicine. An in‐depth knowledge of materials design to functional aspects of printable bioelectronics is demonstrated, with an aim to accelerate the development of next‐generation wearables. Flexible textile antennas are important for wireless communication within the expansion of 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT), as it allows for their integration in daily life objects. However, achieving these functionalities in textiles is challenging because of limitations in the electronic performance, flexibility with scalable fabrication process. This paper presents two flexible textile antennas for wearable and non‐ wearable devices compatible with 5G technology created by printing highly conductive silver nanoparticle inks. Two textile substrates are explored, as the dielectric component, a 3D polyester, and a natural origin fabric, burel. The processes used are cost‐effective and scalable, with the antennas designed to operate at 3–3.5 GHz, maintaining their return loss performance even under bending deformation and washing cycles. By transferring the optimized devices into clothes and wall covering, a detailed analysis with experimental measurements of the textile‐based antenna for different operation scenarios is introduced. The work highlights the suitability of these antennas for wearable applications and their alignment with green wireless technologies, contributing to the advancement of sustainable wireless communication systems. A fatal weakness in flexible electrodes is mechanical fracture of conductive layer that occurs during repetitive stretching and bending deformation. Thereby, suppression of cracks development is crucially important for maintaining the properties of flexible electronics. Herein, topology optimization and structure design methods are utilized to greatly enhance mechanical properties of the existing island-bridge (I-B) structure. The flexible electrodes, with inner-concave honeycomb negative Poisson's ratio (I-CHNPR) structure and I-B structure, are designed and fabricated via screen-printed process, and conductivity is thoroughly investigated. The research demonstrates that the maximum stretching and bending stress of flexible electrodes with I-CHNPR structure-C are decreased by 30% and 28%, respectively, relative to the I-B structure. Fatigue life is enhanced by 18-fold. In addition, flexible electrode has advantages of better self-recovery and excellent conductivity. The flexible electrode proposed in this article is further applicated to realize the collection of ECG signals which has the advantages of wide application, reusable and high accuracy. Silicone-based elastomers (SEs) have been extensively applied in numerous cutting-edge areas, including flexible electronics, biomedicine, 5G smart devices, mechanics, optics, soft robotics, etc. However, traditional strategies for the synthesis of polymer elastomers, such as bulk polymerization, suspension polymerization, solution polymerization, and emulsion polymerization, are inevitably restricted by long-time usage, organic solvent additives, high energy consumption, and environmental pollution. Here, we propose a Joule heating chemistry method for ultrafast universal fabrication of SEs with configurable porous structures and tunable components (e.g., graphene, Ag, graphene oxide, TiO2, ZnO, Fe3O4, V2O5, MoS2, BN, g-C3N4, BaCO3, CuI, BaTiO3, polyvinylidene fluoride, cellulose, styrene-butadiene rubber, montmorillonite, and EuDySrAlSiOx) within seconds by only employing H2O as the solvent. The intrinsic dynamics of the in situ polymerization and porosity creation of these SEs have been widely investigated. Notably, a flexible capacitive sensor made from as-fabricated silicone-based elastomers exhibits a wide pressure range, fast responses, long-term durability, extreme operating temperatures, and outstanding applicability in various media, and a wireless human-machine interaction system used for rescue activities in extreme conditions is established, which paves the way for more polymer-based material synthesis and wider applications. Electrode grids are used in neuroscience research and clinical practice to record electrical activity from the surface of the brain. However, existing passive electrocorticography (ECoG) technologies are unable to offer both high spatial resolution and wide cortical coverage, while ensuring a compact acquisition system. The electrode count and density are restricted by the fact that each electrode must be individually wired. This work presents an active micro‐electrocorticography (µECoG) implant that tackles this limitation by incorporating metal oxide thin‐film transistors (TFTs) into a flexible electrode array, allowing to address multiple electrodes through a single shared readout line. By combining the array with an incremental‐ΔΣ readout integrated circuit (ROIC), the system is capable of recording from up to 256 electrodes virtually simultaneously, thanks to the implemented 16:1 time‐division multiplexing scheme, offering lower noise levels than existing active µECoG arrays. In vivo validation is demonstrated acutely in mice by recording spontaneous activity and somatosensory evoked potentials over a cortical surface of ≈8×8 mm2. The proposed neural interface overcomes the wiring bottleneck limiting ECoG arrays, holding promise as a powerful tool for improved mapping of the cerebral cortex and as an enabling technology for future brain‐machine interfaces. Flexible electronic sensors are receiving numerous research interests for their potential in electronic skins (e‐skins), wearable human‐machine interfacing, and smart diagnostic healthcare sensing. However, the preparation of multifunctional flexible electronics with high sensitivity, broad sensing range, fast response, efficient healability, and reliable antibacterial capability is still a substantial challenge. Herein, bioinspired by the highly sensitive human skin microstructure (protective epidermis/spinous sensing structure/nerve conduction network), a skin bionic multifunctional electronics is prepared by face‐to‐face assembly of a newly prepared healable, recyclable, and antibacterial polyurethane elastomer matrix with conductive MXene nanosheets‐coated microdome array after ingenious templating method as protective epidermis layer/sensing layer, and an interdigitated electrode as signal transmission layer. The polyurethane elastomer matrix functionalized with triple dynamic bonds (reversible hydrogen bonds, oxime carbamate bonds, and copper (II) ion coordination bonds) is newly prepared, demonstrating excellent healability with highly healing efficiency, robust recyclability, and reliable antibacterial capability, as well as good biocompatibility. Benefiting from the superior mechanical performance of the polyurethane elastomer matrix and the unique skin bionic microstructure of the sensor, the as‐assembled flexible electronics exhibit admirable sensing performances featuring ultrahigh sensitivity (up to 1573.05 kPa−1), broad sensing range (up to 325 kPa), good reproducibility, the fast response time (≈4 ms), and low detection limit (≈0.98 Pa) in diagnostic human healthcare monitoring, excellent healability, and reliable antibacterial performance. Flexible thermoelectric devices of nanomaterials have shown a great potential for applications in wearable to remotely located electronics with desired shapes and geometries. Continuous powering up the low power flexible electronics is a major challenge. We are reporting a flexible thermoelectric module prepared from silver telluride (Ag2Te) nanowires (NWs), which are chemically transformed from uniquely synthesized and scalable tellurium (Te) NWs. Conducting Ag2Te NWs composites have shown an ultralow total thermal conductivity ~0.22 W/mK surpassing the bulk melt‐grown Ag2Te ~1.23 W/mK at ~300 K, which is attributed to the nanostructuring of the material. Flexible thermoelectric device consisting of 4 legs (n‐type) of Ag2Te NWs on polyvinylidene fluoride membrane displays a significant output voltage (Voc) ~2.3 mV upon human touch and Voc ~18 mV at temperature gradient, ΔT ~50 K, which shows the importance of NWs based flexible thermoelectric devices to power up the low power wearable electronics. Advancements in wearable electronics and Internet of Things (IoT) sensors have catalyzed the need for effective micro‐energy harvesting. Piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs) are ideal due to their high conversion efficiency and durability. However, the contrast between the high piezoelectric coefficients of brittle inorganic ceramics and the  lower coefficients of superior flexibility and biocompatibility of organic polymers poses a significant challenge. This work introduces a novel multilayer composite PENG, integrating a single‐crystal BaTiO3 (BTO) film between poly(vinylidene fluoride‐co‐trifluoroethylene) (PVDF‐TrFE) layers. The PVDF‐TrFE/BTO/PVDF‐TrFE PENGs demonstrate substantially improved energy harvesting performance, with outputs reaching up to 15.1 V, 2.39 µA, and power density of 17.33 µW cm−2 during bending deformation. This power density represents a significant increase compared to pure PVDF‐TrFE and nanoparticle BTO‐doped PVDF‐TrFE PENGs. Durability tests show consistent performance, with a stable ∼15.0 V output across 2000 bending cycles. Additionally, when attached to the human body, these PENGs efficiently convert body motions into electrical responses. This work demonstrates a significant enhancement in the performance of PENGs using sandwich‐structured composite of PVDF‐TrFE and freestanding single‐crystal BTO films, showing its potential to address the power requirements of wearable and flexible electronic devices. Amorphous nanomembranes play a crucial role in flexible electronics due to their ability to create intricate 3D structures through strain engineering. To better understand the formation of these structures, accurately mapping the local elastic strain distribution is essential. In this study, we conducted position-sensitive nanobeam electron diffraction investigations on various rolled-up amorphous nanomembranes. By analyzing the diffraction rings obtained from different locations on the amorphous samples, we extracted anisotropic structure information in reciprocal space and determined the local strain distributions in real space. Our analysis revealed that particle-assisted dry-released samples exhibited higher strain values than pure amorphous samples. This suggests that nanoparticles introduce additional strain through dewetting effects, thereby facilitating the formation of self-rolling 3D structures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Flexible devices and functional systems with elaborated three-dimensional (3D) architectures can endow better mechanical/electrical performances, more design freedom, and unique functionalities, when compared to their two-dimensional (2D) counterparts. Such 3D flexible devices/systems are rapidly evolving in three primary directions, including the miniaturization, the increasingly merged physical/artificial intelligence and the enhanced adaptability and capabilities of heterogeneous integration. Intractable challenges exist in this emerging research area, such as relatively poor controllability in the locomotion of soft robotic systems, mismatch of bioelectronic interfaces, and signal coupling in multi-parameter sensing. By virtue of long-time–optimized materials, structures and processes, natural organisms provide rich sources of inspiration to address these challenges, enabling the design and manufacture of many bioinspired 3D flexible devices/systems. In this Review, we focus on bioinspired 3D flexible devices and functional systems, and summarize their representative design concepts, manufacturing methods, principles of structure-function relationship and broad-ranging applications. Discussions on existing challenges, potential solutions and future opportunities are also provided to usher in further research efforts toward realizing bioinspired 3D flexible devices/systems with precisely programmed shapes, enhanced mechanical/electrical performances, and high-level physical/artificial intelligence. This work presents the optimization of the fabrication procedure for laser-induced graphene (LIG) electrodes intended for biopotentials acquisition. The results presented in this study demonstrate a significant improvement with respect to the performance obtained for other LIG-based electrodes previously reported in the literature. In particular, we propose the use of a galvanometric laser instead of a CNC laser to improve the engraving resolution and the LIG synthesis process, thus enhancing the surface area of the interface skin–electrode. For that, we have studied the resistance of the resulting LIG patterns as a function of the laser parameters (engraving power and scan speed) seeking their optimization. After tunning the laser fabrication process, we have fabricated and characterized electrocardiogram (ECG) electrodes with different surface areas using a commercial silver-based electrode as a reference. Thus, circular electrodes with a diameter of 15 mm, 10 mm and 6.5 mm were used to acquire the ECG on different volunteers using a commercial equipment. The signals acquired were processed afterwards with cutting edge processing techniques to perform a statistical analysis in terms of sensitivity, specificity, positive prediction and accuracy for the detection of QRS complexes. The results demonstrate that the proposed electrodes improve the signal acquisition with respect to the previously reported LIG-based electrodes in terms of noise and do present comparable or even better results than commercial electrodes (even with a smaller surface area) with the additional advantage of not requiring the use of an electrolyte gel. Direct current (DC) from mechanical energy built on the tribovoltaic effect is promising for the development of self‐powered flexible electronics. A semiconductor triboelectric generator is one of the optimized solutions for DC output. However, it remains underutilized because of its low output power and insufficient insight into the fundamental principles of charge generation and transport at dynamic interfaces. Herein, a flexible fabric‐based DC generator that relies on a metal–semiconducting polymer interface constructed by an asymmetric Schottky junction between a poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonic acid) (PEDOT:PSS)‐coated fabric and an aluminum (Al) foil is reported. The dependence of the electrical output performance of the device on the doping carrier concentration using different types of PEDOT:PSS to modulate the Schottky barrier height, validating both the work function and conductivity of the triboelectric material, which plays a fundamental role in DC generation, is explored. A large work function difference is required to create a high built‐in electric field for efficient separation of electron–hole pairs. Decent conductivity also fulfills an integral role in the innate carrier‐transport capability. Accordingly, an open‐circuit voltage (Voc) of 800 mV, a short‐circuit current (Isc) of 80 μA, and a power density of 6.7 mW cm−2 are yielded simultaneously. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Flexible electronics is a cutting-edge field that has paved the way for artificial tactile systems that mimic biological functions of sensing mechanical stimuli. These systems have an immense potential to enhance human–machine interactions (HMIs). However, tactile sensing still faces formidable challenges in delivering precise and nuanced feedback, such as achieving a high sensitivity to emulate human touch, coping with environmental variability, and devising algorithms that can effectively interpret tactile data for meaningful interactions in diverse contexts. In this review, we summarize the recent advances of tactile sensory systems, such as piezoresistive, capacitive, piezoelectric, and triboelectric tactile sensors. We also review the state-of-the-art fabrication techniques for artificial tactile sensors. Next, we focus on the potential applications of HMIs, such as intelligent robotics, wearable devices, prosthetics, and medical healthcare. Load-bearing biological tissues, such as cartilage and muscles, exhibit several crucial properties, including high elasticity, strength, and recoverability. These characteristics enable these tissues to endure significant mechanical stresses and swiftly recover after deformation, contributing to their exceptional durability and functionality. In contrast, while hydrogels are highly biocompatible and hold promise as synthetic biomaterials, their inherent network structure often limits their ability to simultaneously possess a diverse range of superior mechanical properties. As a result, the applications of hydrogels are significantly constrained. This article delves into the design mechanisms and mechanical properties of various tough hydrogels and investigates their applications in tissue engineering, flexible electronics, and other fields. The objective is to provide insights into the fabrication and application of hydrogels with combined high strength, stretchability, toughness, and fast recovery as well as their future development directions and challenges. Elastomeric polymers have gained significant attention in the field of flexible electronics. The investigation of the electro-mechanical response relationship between polymer structure and flexible electronics is in increasing demand. This study investigated the factors that affect the performance of flexible capacitive pressure sensors using the finite element method (FEM). The sensor employed a porous elastomeric polymer as the dielectric layer. The results indicate that the sensor's performance was influenced by both the structural and material characteristics of the porous elastomeric polymer. In terms of structural characteristics, porosity was the primary factor influencing the performance of sensors. At a porosity of 76%, the sensitivity was 42 times higher than at a porosity of 1%. In terms of material properties, Young's modulus played a crucial role in influencing the performance of the sensors. In particular, the influence on the sensor became more pronounced when Young's modulus was less than 1 MPa. Furthermore, porous polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with porosities of 34%, 47%, 67%, and 72% was fabricated as the dielectric layer for the sensor using the thermal expansion microsphere method, followed by sensing capability testing. The results indicate that the sensor's sensitivity was noticeably influenced within the high porosity range, aligning with the trend observed in the simulation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
